About The Disorders Collective
The Disorders Collective first started nagging me as an idea in 2016. At that point, my on-going and never-ending battle with crippling depression was taking the absolute life out of me and I wasn't sure if I'd make it out sane on the other side of it. Despite the warm support of my absolutely wonderful (and I say that as an understatement) friends, journey in a pit of mental health problems somehow still felt isolating and lonely. Somehow, always an uphill climb but never any closer to the other side.
I thought, albeit very naively at the time, that if there were a place that brought together other people who felt the same way I did, who knew what it was truly like, who could see and understand because they had experienced it closely; maybe it would help ease this crushing weight inside my chest that kept reiterating that I was alone. 2016 to now, the nagging never went away. I kept thinking someone else will create the space but nobody did (at least, to my knowledge and the way I envisioned it).
So finally in 2023, after a harrowing experience with another misdiagnosis (BPD, when it wasn't BPD at all I later found), I decided to give it a shot myself and create The Disorders Collective.
What is The Disorders Collective?
The Disorders Collective is primarily a safe space created to serve a two-fold purpose: one, help people with support groups and shared journeys and two, to offer guidance to those trying to help their loved ones with a difficult time. It is not limited to any specific mental health disorder and/or problem. We are an open space to address everything with authenticity and honesty.
How does it plan to fulfill its purpose?
To begin with, we aim to provide two things; regular and specific support groups for you to engage with other like-minded people with similar journeys and resources for you to help yourself individually on your own time.
What does it cost?
Absolutely nothing! Since The Disorders Collective is based entirely on the participation of the people, all our support groups will be free. Most of the resources available will also be free. Only the resources created with the involvement of psychology and psychiatry professionals, doctors and therapists will be priced at a very minimal fee to ensure we can keep being able to afford to update our resource bank.
The Disorders Collective is born out of one person's need to create a safe space and will continue to be available for free..
How can I make the most out of TDC?
Be open to the possibility that you will find people on similar journeys and that you are not alone. Sign up for support groups, take whatever resources you need, join the newsletter to stay updated! The Disorders Collective will be a regularly updated space, we will keep adding more and more support groups and resources to ensure we cover as many experiences as possible.
We understand that everyone is on a different journey and we aim to make this space as inclusive as possible.
